Located just on the outskirts of Galway city, the Connacht hotel offers a bright and friendly atmosphere. The entrance to the hotel is awash with colourful flowers and looks like a great spot to park your bum on a sunny day.
As part of Into The West Blogger Network, I went along to sample their lunch menu which is served daily in Bar Solo from 12.30-5pm.
Now, if you’re a sports fan, then you’ll go crazy for this place! Bar Solo is extremely spacious with screens galore, so there’s no need to stand on your tiptoes to catch all the action. Definitely a haven for those who want to watch a match without being wedged into a city centre pub.
The menu itself is quite varied and offers something for everyone – including a pizza menu, lots of salad options and of course those pub grub favourites like Beef Lasagne and Chicken Curry.
I opted for Fish Cakes to start while Joe went for the Spicy Chicken Wings. The fish cakes were quite tasty accompanied with some lemon curd and sweet chili sauce. As a starter goes, it was quite large because it was served with some mini breads – which I just couldn’t finish as I had a main to follow. Joe was happy with the wings because they were hot and spicy – the way that he likes them but…if you’re not a spice addict, there is an option for sticky wings too.
For the main course, I tried the Shredded Duck Salad with Noodles. The presentation of the dish was lovely and the flat bread served alongside was spot on.
We were pretty full from the starters and mains so we decided to share a dessert at the end. Between the options of Raspberry Roulade and Salted Caramel Gateau – we opted for the latter and savoured every morsel. Lovely and light in texture with just enough savoury and sweet to satisfy us both.
Overall, it was a pleasant experience and you just couldn’t falter the attentive and friendly staff.
Bar Solo also offers an extensive cocktail menu which is a bonus for any potential hen or stag parties thinking about staying in the hotel. The layout of the Bar Solo is also perfect for large groups and the place is really child friendly.
